UL standards (product-specific, e.g., UL 62368-1, UL 8750)
In Depth
UL (Underwriters Laboratories) is the most widely recognized product safety testing and certification organization for the U.S. market. UL standards apply across electrical, electronic, and lighting equipment, including UL 62368-1 (ICT and AV equipment), UL 8750 (LED light sources), and legacy UL 60950-1.
Compliance involves testing at a UL-recognized lab, factory inspections, and ongoing surveillance audits. Many UL standards harmonize with IEC equivalents (UL 62368-1 with IEC 62368-1), allowing test data reuse but still requiring U.S.-specific certification and the UL mark before the product can be listed by retailers and accepted by authorities having jurisdiction.
